Test Sounds is an audiovisual collage made at A-Z West. Throughout a self-structured residency, audio samples of rocks, broken pieces of glass, scrap metal, various plants, animals, traffic hums in the distance, and a lot of wind, among other sounds were collected and woven into soundscapes. Weaving and textile patterns are interlaced as masks to draw relationships between video clips, highlighting contrasts between day/night, light/shadow, ants/cars, rocks/shrubs, and animal tracks versus machines. The piece asks, how might we try to understand more about the history, ecology, and culture of space through deep listening? What patterns do you observe in the sounds and spaces around you? 2026
